question on omc cobra shift assist.?

why is there a over -ride switch when the shift -assist switch returns to normal after it shifts ?

OMC Cobra and Mercruiser both use a shift interupt switch, that is designed to momentarily kill the ign. to the engine while shifting. Some Cobra’s have a “over-stroke switch” which insures that once the gears are engaged the interrupter will drop out. If it’s causing a problem, which I’ve never seen, it’s almost always a cable adjustment problem, not the switch. I hope this helps.
