Bolt Titanium
Bolt Titanium
I would like to join the Navy SEALs, but I was recently hit by a car which broke my leg, can i still join?

I was struck by a car on September 26. The doctors who took care of me decided to place a titanium rod in my leg, which now runs from my knee to my ankle. Each end is secured by two bolts. Due to the rod, I am already walking again! It may ,however, be a little longer before I can run comfortably( I can jog short distances though) and continue my regular PT. I’m kind of scared that I won’t be accepted now because several marines and a former Sailor told me I will have a VERY hard time being accepted for the Navy SEALs, if i’m not just turned down completely. So my question is: If I prove myself to be in exceptional shape, would I have be accepted?
I would prefer that only military members (former or active) answer this question.

It is possible for you to still be able to join the Teams. It all depends on how well your leg heals and what kind of shape it would be in. WIth the titanium rod, your lower leg is probably now stronger than it was before the break but it will take a while before the bone builds up around the bolt ends to secure them enough for the rigors of BUDs and other SEAL training. Remember BMCM (Boatswain’s Mate Master Chief) Carl Brashear was able to retain his status as a Navy diver and was able to attain the status of Master Diver all this with only ONE leg.
