Defang the snake or go for the vitals?
For those of you who are retired military/ knife fighters, is it preferable to defang the snake by going for the hands or stab at the vitals? I was trained to stay at a distance when knife fighting and move in and out of range with quick slashes at the wrists until his hands are useless, then do kill strokes because the stab wounds sustained in the midsection will still allow the attacker to keep stabbing at you for about 6 seconds, which as you know is an eternity in knife fighting. But recently I was talking to a coworker who is trained in a different system and he is trained to close quickly and go for te heart and face without even defanging. What is your strategy when deploying your tactical folder?
Knife fighting is a joke, it doesn’t happen. People use weapons to gain an advantage over one another. You pull a knife he’s not going to pull his. He’s going to grab a chair and smash you with it. These “knife fights” just don’t happen as no one will ever fight on equal footing with you like that.
Even in war knife fighting doesn’t happen. They pull a knife, you have a gun. You pull a knife and the other guy probably has no weapon and chances are you’re the attacker.
While said knife fights do happen in the Phillepenes it’s a very poor country where you can also just carry a GUN. However in 1st world countries you will not encounter this. Very seldomly will both parties have knives and use them instead of grabbing larger weapons.
My advice is to scrap the knife fighting and pick up some empty handed combat style.
