Is it possible to extract DNA from fossilized bones? dinosaurs’ for instance? it’s for a stupid project….
OK, it seems that my Chem teacher is obsessed with Jurassic Park….she just assigned us to describe a way for “making” a dinosaur….similar to the one presented in the movie
you know, that stupid thing about getting dino’s DNA from mosquitoes that sucked their blood and were then trapped and preserved in amber, and spliced with reptilian, avian, or amphibian DNA to fill in the sequence gaps
BUt she doesnt want us to include the mosquitoes story, she wants us to find a new way…..
so is it possible to get the DNA from the bones??? (it might seem stupid but I dont know what else to think!!!!)

Not possible with current technology OR current dinosaur remains.
Since it’s such a wild and unworkable notion anyway, you should be able to make up just about anything and be just as plausible. Backwards engineering of a dinosaur genome using birds and crocodilians, capturing light from 65 million light years away and extracting some mystical “aura” of the dinosaur DNA from it… whatever, it’s all unworkable fantasy just like Jurassic Park was.
Suggest to your teacher that she teach you about the chemical processes involved in the fossils studied by Dr Mary Schweitzer of North Carolina State University. That’s real science and might get her mind off of fantasy for a while.
