What were all of the different orders of the Crusader Knights. eg Knights Templars, Knights Hospitallers etc?
To rebut the Templar thing before, they were persecuted only by the last Pope and King of France in their livelihood. Before that, they were widely feared and respected. They originated in Jerusalem, and were the Poor Knights of the Temple of Solomon, because they were given the Temple of Solomon as their headquarters for the efforts in one of the Crusades. They were destroyed in 1320 by the King of France because they had grown too powerful and rich, and he rightly feared their power. The last official head of the order was de Molay, who was burned at the stake for heresy. The remaining, or surviving, knights fled to Scotland, because that is where the original founder was from. They were no longer the Templars,though. They exist even now. They are now known as the Masons. Their symbol was the red cross on white. Their seal was two knights riding the same horse, to emphasize their vow of poverty.
The Teutonic Knights were an order made up of German Crusaders; you had to be German aristocracy, and you had to be Roman Catholic. Other than that, they were like any other order. Their symbol was the black cross on white.
The Hospitallers were Knights that ran hospitals, pretty much. They cared for those sick, injured, and homeless. That included civilians as well as other Knights. They often accompanied other orders to battle, to patch them up afterwards. They were also called the Knights of Rhodes, Knights of Malta, Cavaliers of Malta, and the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. Their symbol was the white Maltese cross on black.
There were various others, that took their names from saints or holy places. They were all regular knights, not differing much except in name and location.
